religious books

Posted by Picasa

While religious books for our religion are available for children who are good readers, there are not many books which target the emergent reader population. So I made this coloring book with the picture on the right side for her to color and a small text on the left side introducing the deity. So far Jr S has loved it . Hopefully I will be making a few more of these soon.

container garden

I have a really black thumb but I still keep on trying. one of the plants with which I have had consistent luck with is Fenugreek( methi) . So Jr S ,  her best friend and I sowed methi seeds in yogurt containers and now are happily seeing the sprouts. Jr S enjoyed it a lot, she kept on trying to put all the seeds in the container . She enjoyed scooping the potting soil from the bag into the small containers. I do not have a picture of this and unfortunately the yogurt container was small to sustain the plant.  But we had fun.

valentines

Posted by Picasa

Jr S made 30 of these heart valentines for her school party. I cut the hearts from cardstock and she personalised them with her drawings. It was fun to see her draw girly things or smily faces with long hair for girls and short hair for boys. She also made one for me and S . It was great !! Lot of fine motor activity, as she also helped me stick the pencils on the back side.

lady bug .....again

Jr S has been trying very hard to find ladybugs and she has met with success on more than one occasions. This time when she cought a lady bug we put her in a small container and observed her with a magnifying glass. It coincided perfectly with Jr S 's theme in school about insects and bugs. It was very hard for her to let go of the ladybug... but t'was done.

A small little activity to help differentiate between a straight line and curved lines. I printed it from Kizclub I think.

Old memories.

I remember making these simple flashcards with black markers on white cardstock and taping them to the side of Jr S's crib and changing table. She really enjoyed those. She also used to enjoy seeing the light coming in from the side of the crib and the contrast which the slats offered her. This was recommended by my amazing sister from the book "The Baby Whisperer". One of the first handmade toy we made was rattle out of a cereal can. It was vibrant yellow with a small plastic ball inside it. Jr S loved to look at it . Another toy which Jr S loved was a remote control which helped us immensely as Jr S was not very tolerant of tummy time till she found out about the remote. Later we also used it to develop further milestones like creeping and crawling. One thing which has not changed since when she was a baby is her love for books. I remember the funny times when she was about 7 months ,she would instinctively start searching for her book stashed in the pocket of out rocker when it was sleep time. She still loves to have books read to her. her favorite phrase: ata vachuya ekda ani mag last time, translated means lets read , once and then the last time.
